I always like to save time. With this method, you can do just that! The size I made in this example is for a beginner or advanced quilter. There is plenty of room for you to trim and square up to the exact size you need your Flying Geese to be.
Here is what you will need:
fabric
rotary cutter & mat
pins
Erasable ink pen
Ruler

Cutting Instructions for a 2-1/2" x 5" finished size (You will use two different fabrics):
One large square 6-1/2" x 6-1/2"
Four small squares 3-5/8" x 3-5/8"

Take two of your small squares and place them, right sides together, on your large square. Draw a line down the middle as shown.

You then draw a 1/4" line on each side of the middle line using your ruler.

Sew on the two drawn lines (not the one in the middle). I have a quarter inch foot on my machine, which makes it much easier. So if you have one, definitely use it. I still have to be very careful!

Cut on the middle line using your rotary cutter and ruler. So much easier that scissors.

Press.

Place your two remaining small squares as shown below.

Draw lines as you did before, one down the middle and two 1/4" lines on each side. Sew down the lines on the side. I made sure to pin so they wouldn't end up wonky.
Cut on the middle line with your rotary cutter and ruler. You will now have four units.

Press on the wrong side. Trim and square up to 3" x 5-1/2" (unfinished)

You now have four easy to make Flying Geese!
